Before booking something off-property, see what’s already included with your stay. Many Maui resorts host free or low-cost classes for guests.
Think hula lessons, ukulele workshops, coconut frond weaving, kukui nut bracelet making, cooking demos, and even water sports like outrigger canoe paddling. Some places have full weekly activity calendars that guests don’t even know about so definitely ask at check-in.

Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center (Makawao)
Tucked into a gorgeous historic estate in Makawao, this nonprofit is part gallery, part art school, part community hub. They offer classes in ceramics, printmaking, painting, jewelry-making, metalsmithing—you name it. It’s welcoming for beginners but inspiring for seasoned artists too.
Moana Glass by Ryan Staub (Lahaina)
Maui’s only glassblowing studio that offers hands-on lessons. You’ll work alongside a professional glassblower to shape molten glass into a colorful, one-of-a-kind piece. Everyone I have recommended this to has loved it.
Kai Luna Creations (Paia)
Make your own ocean-inspired resin art…on a cheese board. Not only do you get a unique piece, but you’ll actually use it. You’ll learn cool techniques like marbling and lacing, and once your masterpiece cures (about 24 hours), you can pick it up or have it shipped.
Paper Garden (Wailea)
A charming little stationery shop that doubles as a creativity hub. Workshops range from candle making to fabric stamping to lei po‘o (flower crown) design. You’ll leave with a beautiful, handmade souvenir you can’t find in any store.
